Parson's Elementary

Our Story

The Point Church began as a Bible study in a New Brunswick apartment in the summer of 2004, with the church “officially” launching in January 2005. Since the beginning the Point has focused on ministering to Rutgers University and the surrounding communities which led to us launching a congregation in North Brunswick in October 2006. We presently have congregations meeting to worship on Sundays in New Brunswick and North Brunswick and community groups meeting weekly in New Brunswick, North Brunswick, East Brunswick, Highland Park, and at Rutgers University.

What Is The Church?

Some view the church as a building and others as an institution, but we believe the church is the people. Scripture repeatedly describes the church as a spiritual family made up of brothers and sisters with God as our Father.

We view the church as a family of Christ followers who…
Embrace Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Express our “new birth” through baptism.
Share our lives together in worship, the study of scripture, prayer, and service.
Give sacrificially of our time, talents, resources, and energy.
Open our lives and community to those who are seeking and searching for God.

A Simple Structure

We have three areas of ministry we focus on.

Worship Gatherings—Every Sunday we meet 10 am at Parsons Elementary in North Brunswick and 7pm at Kairo Kafe in downtown New Brunswick to worship Jesus though singing, studying the scriptures, prayer, and communion. Our atmosphere is laid-back and casual, so come as you are!

Community Groups—Throughout the week we have groups of 5-10 that meet to “do life” together. These groups provide a safe place for you to connect with others who are seeking God.

Outreach & Service—Whether preparing a meal at the soup kitchen or hosting a community event, almost every week we have opportunities to serve the community as the hands and feet of Jesus.

See Acts 2:41-47

Two Forms Of Leadership

Pastoral leaders are responsible for leading the ministries of the Point Church, teaching at the weekly worship gatherings, and developing other leaders within the church.

Servant leaders assist our pastoral leaders in serving the church as both community group leaders and ministry team leaders.

See 1 Timothy 3:1-13.

Pastoral Leaders

> Overseeing ministry in and through the Point Church.
> Leading the weekly worship meeting, especially the Bible study.
> Meeting weekly with members for spiritual growth.
> Investing in the servant leaders as they invest in others.
> Mentoring a potential pastoral leader.

Servant Leaders

> Assisting the Pastoral leaders in organizing the weekly worship meeting.
> Meeting weekly with members for spiritual growth.
> Leading in service to members.
> Mobilizing members to serve the community in the name of Jesus.

With all of our leaders we look for the following commitments:

> Intimacy with God: John 15:4-5
> Character in lifestyle: 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
> Excellence in ministry: Colossians 3:17,23
> Relationships with people: 1Thessalonians 1:5-6, Philippians 1:5-8
> Prayer in Everything: Philippians 1:4, Colossians 1:3, 1 Thessalonians 1:2, Matthew 7:7-8
